Consecutive interpreting, as the name suggests, is different from simultaneous interpreting. The speech given by the speaker is interpreted after the fact, not in real-time. The speaker says their piece, the interpreter takes notes and then, consecutively, they deliver a full interpretation of what’s been said. This method is used when the audience needing interpretation is small, there’s no booth or sound system for simultaneous interpreting, and earphones aren’t required.
The main drawback is the time involved, as extra time has to be allowed for the interpreter to play their role right after the original speech, meaning any event, presentation, or meeting will take longer.
If you need a consecutive interpreter in Italian, Spanish, German, English or French for a meeting, send me a message and we can discuss the best solution.
